HEBREWS 6
The Passage Sin
In the case of those who have been enlightened and have tasted the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of teh Holy Spirit and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come and then have fallen away - it is impossible to renew them again to repentance since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put him to open shame. For ground that drinks the rain that often falls upon it and brings forth vegetation useful for those for whose sake it was also tilled receives a blessing from God. But if it yields thorns and thistles it is worthless and close to being cursed and ends up being burned. But, beloved, we are all convinced of better things concerning you, things that accompany salvation. God is not so unjust as to overlook...

Everyone could pretty easily say, yes, Lord, I find that confession is an ongoing thing in my life. And if anyone says that they haven't sinned since they've been born again is a big liar and there's a verse that directly says just that! Unless you want to play superficial games and not get real yet and hang up the church while playing the denial game. That's not to give the green light to anything. It's just to say that we're pressing on and gaining the victory every day. But it's an uphill climb, everybody knows that.
There remains no sacrifice (remember, this was written to Hebrews who used to kill animals in the Temple for their sins) because Jesus was sacrificed once and for all.
Conclusion
So basically Hebrews 6 is saying that if a born again believer walks into sin, they're daed at that moment. It is impossible to renew them again to repentance at that moment and they are putting themselves in a situation where they will experience the fires - temporarily in this life the fruit of their own sin.
It is impossible to restore them to repentance while they are active and into this falling away. In other words when someone is into the midst of a sin, you've seen people there - you just can't get through to them.
It doesn't mean that they can't be renewed afterwards.
There are examples from agriculture that support that. We know from Genesis thorns and thistles are the fruit of sin. So it's useless, close to being cursed and ends up being burned.. The hope on the other side is that they will forsake their ways and allow the burnt up dross to agin produce fruitfulness. S
So that's the whole teaching and that's consistent with the whole of scripture.
Many Christians struggle with this. The memory of some distant sin that you committed after being born again. Now there's that guilt that remains. that's your own prison house. You can't ask God to take that away because he already has. It's like asking god to save you once you've been saved.
There's a certain point where you have to step in, when you still feel guilty, and say when I confessed this sin I know that god forgave me.
For some reason I haven't picked up on the cleansing part. So in childlike faith receive that now too. Thank you Lord there is no condemnation. And you'll be free to receive the Lord in all His beauty and glory.
