On 9-25-00 I had laser surgery for the skin in the back of
my mouth, and immediately after surgery the surgeon said,
"Okay, now try and make the snoring sound."
Which I could no longer. Immediate success.
And that night, for the first time, when I woke up in the middle
of the night, it was with eyes wide open - no grogginess.
A success for me.
For the next week my throat didn't hurt that much because of
the liquid tylenol, but it did hurt a lot during swallowing while
eating. Matter of fact - the next day after surgery, it hurt
every
single time I swallowed.
Before I ate, I sprayed my mouth with chloraseptic to help dull the
pain. And I had that ever special elixir - codeine - for at night.
There were times during the week while eating (and it was all soft
stuff, no spices, room temperature as much as possible, no hot or
cold - mashed potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal...
Hard to drink stuff, too. There were times during the week,
as I
started to say, where I regretted having such pain.
Ah, but sleep had become so much better. And the pain
did get less and less each day - till, on writing this Sunday,
October 8th, not even two weeks after the surgery, two days ago I
stopped using the chloraseptic totally, and yesterday I ate "totally
normally" - no yogurt - but I still like and have taken a liking to
mashed potatoes.
A friend of mine at work says "He's heard that name before."
(Mansoor Madoni - www.snorenet.com)
And my friend listens to KYW - and Mr. Madoni advertises on there.
Actually, I have heard Mr. Madoni's commercials on WWDB for the last
three years. My sister in law's sister, a career nurse says she
hears the ads on KYW - and Mr. Madoni is the one that thought of this
process. (laser surgery involves no bleeding - definitely a benefit)
Another friend of mine had a more complicated situation, and he had
the scalpel done to him last July by a Philadelphia hospital.
I'm
glad he made it.
My late brother had a friend who died on the operating
table bleeding
to death from a similar procedure. (the scalpel) Scary.
Let me repeat - with the laser - there's no bleeding -
sometimes there is after - but there was none with me.
Just last week, Mr. Madoni was Irv Homer's program on WWDB from
noon
till 3 in the afternoon. Irv was at Mr Madoni's office, which
is only
a short drive from WWDB headquarters.
They talked about all different kinds of stuff for three
whole hours.
Most impressive, was Mr. Madoni talking about jaw reconstructive surgery.
He had a young patient who only one half of the jaw was growing.
Something that happens sometimes. The route they chose to take,
was to
wait till the child was the opportune age of 5. And what happened
next
was just about a miracle. Mr. Madoni placed a rib into the other
side of the
jaw - and what happened was - the rib grew back - and the bone in the
jaw
"took", not only making a successful hinge, but also growing teeth.
So operating at that age was a stroke of genius - and the outcome
better than all had hoped.
Anyway - in my case - I had surgery. No pain no gain.
I sleep better, and breath much better now - through my nose
instead of sleeping with my mouth open.
Much better. Just what I wanted.
